Just a few years ago, banks were building branches like crazy in an attempt to drive growth via a land grab focusing on the convenience of customer “friendly” branches. Per the FDIC, the number of branches peaked at 99,544 branches in 2009. Today, the remaining 93K+ branches are transforming in
response to customer behavior changes created by technological advancements in a variety of self-service channels. The branch banking experience, which was once a static, reliable business model, is now in a state of evolution with many questions still to be answered.
